The Story Behind the Kathmandu Morning Ritual

Across the Himalayan region, mornings have long begun with a warm cup of tea. In Nepal, traditional Chiya combines black tea with aromatic spices such as cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. Kathmandu Cosmos draws inspiration from this tradition, blending handpicked Himalayan Black Tea and Golden Tips Black Tea with carefully selected spices that celebrate Nepal’s tea culture.

Cordyceps was selected for more than its connection to the Himalayan region. Valued in traditional Asian herbal practices for centuries, it has long been associated with vitality, stamina and an active way of life. Today, Cordyceps remains one of the world’s best-known functional mushrooms and a popular addition to morning rituals.

Closely related to rare wild Cordyceps species traditionally found at high altitude in the Himalayas, our cultivated Cordyceps militaris offers a sustainably produced way to experience this distinctive mushroom. Its mild, earthy character blends naturally with the warming spices and full-bodied black tea of Kathmandu Cosmos.

Each product has a distinct role within the ritual. Kathmandu Cosmos provides the caffeinated, full-bodied foundation of the morning cup, while Cordyceps contributes the botanical tradition and vitality-focused character for which it is widely recognised. Together, they create one distinctive drink with complementary flavour and shared Himalayan heritage.

Inside the Ritual Collection

Kathmandu Cosmos Tea Blend

Inspired by traditional Nepalese Chiya, Kathmandu Cosmos combines handpicked Himalayan Black Tea and Golden Tips Black Tea with cinnamon, ginger, black cardamom and lemongrass. The result is a fruity, full-bodied tea with warming spice, natural sweetness and delicate citrus notes.

Cordyceps Mushroom Powder

Produced exclusively from the fruiting bodies of cultivated Cordyceps militaris, this finely ground powder has a mild, earthy character that blends easily into warm drinks. It was selected for the collection because its flavour complements the tea, while its longstanding association with vitality gives the ritual a distinct botanical character.

Enjoying the Kathmandu Morning Ritual

The Kathmandu Morning Ritual was created to be enjoyed as one energizing morning drink, combining the full-bodied, spiced character of Kathmandu Cosmos with the mild earthiness of Cordyceps.

Place approximately 2 g of Kathmandu Cosmos Tea Blend in a tea infuser and add 1 teaspoon of Cordyceps Mushroom Powder directly to the cup. Pour over fresh water heated to 90–95°C, stir thoroughly and allow the tea to steep for 4–5 minutes. Remove the tea infuser and stir again before drinking. The Cordyceps powder remains in the drink and may settle naturally at the bottom of the cup. For a more pronounced mushroom character, gradually increase the amount to 2 teaspoons according to personal preference.

Together, the black tea, warming spices, delicate citrus notes and earthy Cordyceps create a rich and distinctive flavour profile inspired by Nepalese tea culture.

Add sugar and/or milk according to personal preference and taste.

A Ritual Built Around Consistency

The Kathmandu Morning Ritual is not intended as a quick solution or a single moment of transformation. Like the tea and herbal traditions that inspired it, its value lies in repetition, intention, and the quiet discipline of returning to the same morning routine over time.

By bringing together Himalayan tea craftsmanship, warming Nepalese spices, and Cordyceps Mushroom Powder, the ritual creates a purposeful way to begin the day, one cup at a time.
